Tension gripped Chandabali in Bhadrak district after the abduction, rape, and murder of a 10‑year‑old girl.
The incident sparked widespread outrage, with enraged locals demolishing the house of the accused in Rampalli village.
The crime occurred on Tuesday morning when the minor went missing while visiting Rampalli village. Later that evening, her body was discovered behind the Panchayat office in Baligaon with clear evidence of sexual assault and brutal killing.
As news spread, villagers staged protests at Baligaon Square on the Akhandalamani road, burning effigies and demanding immediate justice. By Wednesday, once the accused was identified, locals stormed his residence and reduced it to rubble.
Police acted swiftly, arresting the accused within 24 hours of the crime. Bhadrak Superintendent of Police personally supervised the deployment of heavy police forces at the site to prevent further unrest.
Meanwhile, BJD MLA Byomkesh Ray announced a 24‑hour block bandh in Chandabali, condemning the incident. The Odisha Human Rights Commission also registered a case, demanding strict action against the culprit. The victim’s family has been assured compensation of Rs 50 lakh.
The incident has left the entire district in shock, with heightened tension prevailing across villages. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely to maintain law and order.
