Odisha Police intensified its fight against cybercrime through Operation Cyber Kabach, a statewide campaign targeting mule (benami) bank accounts used in online fraud.
Under the direction of DGP Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, district SPs and DCPs supervised cybercrime units in identifying fraudulent accounts and their handlers. The operation focused on tracing mule accounts, registering cases, and issuing legal notices to suspects.
So far, police have checked 9,376 mule accounts across the state. Investigations led to 216 arrests and legal notices to 2,758 suspects linked to 118 FIRs. Cases include ATM withdrawals, cheque fraud, and fake SIM/PoS transactions.
District‑wise action highlights:
- Cuttack Police checked 353 accounts, registered 2 cases, and issued notices to 14 suspects.
- Jagatsinghpur Police examined 106 accounts, filed 3 cases, and issued 6 notices.
- Jajpur Police reviewed 81 accounts, filed 6 cases, and issued 61 notices.
- Khordha Police checked 121 accounts, filed 8 cases, arrested 6, and issued 21 notices.
- Balasore Police examined 398 accounts, filed 5 cases, arrested 5, and issued 12 notices.
- Bhadrak Police checked 305 accounts, filed 14 cases, arrested 12, and issued 29 notices.
- Ganjam Police reviewed 109 accounts, filed 11 cases, arrested 11, and issued 24 notices.
- Bargarh Police checked 1,146 accounts, arrested 3, and issued 1,024 notices.
Other districts, including Puri, Bolangir, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Rourkela, Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj, and Koraput, also reported significant action.
DGP Khurania said Odisha Police remains committed to securing digital transactions and will intensify the campaign further to build a cybercrime‑free Odisha.
