Following incessant rains in northern Odisha, rivers such as Subarnarekha, Budhabalanga, and Jalka saw significant water level rise, triggering a flood-like situation in Balasore and Mayurbhanj districts.
In response, the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) has been actively engaged in intensive rescue and relief operations across the affected areas.
ODRAF teams have played a crucial role in safeguarding lives and properties. They have rescued people trapped in submerged areas and relocated them to safer zones. So far, over 8,191 individuals have been evacuated from 18 blocks across both districts and shifted to safety.
Operating 24×7 in close coordination with the Fire Services Department, the ODRAF teams are ensuring the safety and security of all affected residents. Under the direct supervision of Dr. Satyajit Nayak, IPS, DIG (Eastern Range), Balasore, the teams are executing their duties with commitment and precision.
In Balasore district, over 2,000 residents from areas such as Baliapal, Bhograi, Basta, Kamarda, and Singla have been rescued. In Mayurbhanj district, more than 6,000 people from Sarasakana, Rasgovindpur, Badasahi, Betnoti, and Baripada have been evacuated and relocated to secure shelters.
ODRAF personnel have been working day and night to conduct rescue missions, raise awareness among residents of low-lying regions, and facilitate their movement to designated relief camps.
As of now, 6 ODRAF teams have been deployed in Mayurbhanj and 5 teams in Balasore, continuing to work relentlessly amid challenging conditions.
