The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that a low-pressure area will form over the South Andaman Sea within the next 24 hours.
The system will then intensify into a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal by November 24.
Weather scientist Uma Shankar Das stated on X that a cyclonic circulation over the Malacca Strait, extending up to 5.8 km above sea level, is likely to trigger the formation of the low-pressure system. He added that the depression will move west-northwest and may further intensify over the southwest Bay of Bengal within 48 hours.
Uncertainty Over Cyclone Formation
However, experts remain uncertain whether the developing system will strengthen into a cyclonic storm. Although several weather models have attempted to predict its trajectory and intensity, no clear forecast has emerged.
Farmers Express Concern
Meanwhile, farmers across Odisha have grown increasingly anxious. With mature paddy crops standing in the fields, they fear that any cyclone or heavy rainfall towards the end of the month will cause significant damage.
