Former minister Prasad Harichandan urged youth to lead Odisha’s transformation at the 93rd birth anniversary celebration of Pradyumna Bal, founder of the renowned Odia daily Pragativadi.
Shri Harichandan urged the youth to lead the charge in building a progressive Odisha.” He cited historical examples of transformative leaders like Buddha, Shankaracharya, and Mahatma Gandhi, who achieved greatness in their youth. Harichandan stressed that socialism and equality can only be realized when young minds embrace compassion and critical thinking.
He reflected on the influence of visionary Pradyumna Bal and the newspaper ‘Pragativadi’, calling it not just a publication but a movement rooted in values and ideas. Harichandan asserted that Odisha can become a leading state if ordinary citizens unite with purpose.
Justice Manoranjan Mohanty, chairperson of Gandhi Peace Foundation, presided over the event. He warned that democracy is under strain and likened current governance to monarchy. He advocated for mass movements to restore democratic values, echoing Gandhi’s teachings.
The conference, organized by Dr. Namita Pattnaik, featured cultural performances by students of Ganesh Institute of Technology and musical presentations by KISS students. Speakers from various colleges, including Rudrapratap Das, Alisa Senapati, and Adyasha Mahapatra, shared their thoughts on leadership and social change.
Harichandan concluded by stating that youth must not chase illusions but seek the light of truth. He called for unity, courage, and a shared vision to shape Odisha’s future.
