The Odisha government is intensifying efforts to bolster infrastructure as part of its vision for a developed Odisha by 2036. In a high-level review meeting held at Lokseva Bhawan’s Convention Hall, Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Prithviraj Harichandan directed officials to ensure the timely completion of projects exceeding ₹50 crore while maintaining high quality standards.

The meeting focused on enhancing roads, bridges, and buildings, aligning with modern technologies like artificial intelligence and digital systems such as WAMIS and OSWAS.

A significant highlight was the unveiling of the “Bridge Repair Policy,” aimed at systematic maintenance of critical infrastructure. Minister Harichandan also announced that a “Road Repair Policy” is in the pipeline, underscoring the government’s commitment to robust infrastructure. “To achieve a top national ranking, our engineers must adopt cutting-edge techniques and ensure regular infrastructure audits,” he stated.

Key projects reviewed included the Brahmapur Bypass, Khordha Bypass, Nayagarh Bypass, Puri-Konark Road’s Matiapada ROB, and high-level bridges over the Baitarani and Tel rivers. Emphasis was placed on improving the surroundings of revered sites like Maa Sarala and Chandi temples, alongside sports facilities such as swimming pools in Nayagarh, Balasore, Jharsuguda, and Jajpur. Ring road projects in Brahmapur, Cuttack, and Puri were also discussed, with a focus on resolving land acquisition and forest land issues to expedite construction.

Principal Secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh stressed the adoption of modern workflows, urging the department to move beyond traditional methods. He highlighted the integration of WAMIS and OSWAS to streamline operations. The minister expressed satisfaction with several ongoing projects but issued strict instructions to complete delayed ones promptly. Concerns were raised about some contractors outsourcing work, prompting Harichandan to order investigations and stringent action against violators.

The meeting saw participation from senior officials, including EIC Civil Satyabrata Behera, Special Secretary L.K. Padhi, OBCC Managing Director Sameer Hota, and representatives from construction agencies, reinforcing the collaborative push for Odisha’s infrastructure transformation.
