Odisha State Women’s Commission Chairperson Sovana Mohanty expressed strong outrage over the brutal mob violence in Intaliguda village under Kalyansinghpur block, Rayagada district.
She instructed the Rayagada SP to conduct a detailed investigation and file the chargesheet without delay.
Mohanty spoke directly with the SP, emphasising the need for a thorough probe and strict legal action against the accused. She assured that the victim would receive complete assistance and protection. Mohanty described the incident as shameful for society and condemned the attack driven by false suspicion and ignorance.
She urged the police to act swiftly and ensure justice for the victim. The Commission also directed authorities to provide psychological and safety support to the survivor. Mohanty said such acts of mob brutality must never be tolerated and called for stronger awareness to prevent similar incidents.
Rayagada police have arrested more than 23 accused so far and continue the investigation under the “Red Flag” category. The Crime Against Women (CW) team is monitoring the case. Victims Suman Jha and Arpit Sutariya, interns from Delhi and Gujarat, respectively, are now stable and staying with their families.
The violence occurred on June 16 when villagers attacked the duo after mistaking them for child abductors. The assault video went viral, drawing widespread condemnation across Odisha.
