Odisha continues to experience rising heat, with the Meteorological Centre predicting a 2–4°C increase in maximum temperatures over the next three days.
The heatwave is intensifying across districts, but nor’wester showers are expected to bring temporary relief.
Seven districts—Balasore, Bhadrak, Gajapati, Ganjam, Malkangiri, Rayagada, and Koraput—may witness light to moderate rainfall today. Tomorrow, southern Odisha districts are likely to receive showers, while on March 27, both northern and southern regions could face thunderstorms accompanied by rain.
Wind speeds during these storms may reach 40–50 kmph, raising concerns about crop damage and localised disruptions. The IMD issued warnings for isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds on Day 1, Day 3, and Day 4 of the forecast period. No warnings have been issued for Day 2 and Days 5–7.
On Tuesday, Titilagarh recorded the highest temperature in the state at 38.5°C, making it the hottest city. Officials advised residents to stay hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours, and remain cautious during thunderstorms. Farmers have been urged to take preventive measures to safeguard standing crops.
