With floodwaters rising across Odisha, the Water Resources Department has intensified its field‑level deployment to strengthen preparedness and ensure close monitoring of rivers and embankments.
Officials confirmed that Superintending Engineers and Executive Engineers from the Minor Irrigation, Mega Lift Irrigation, Quality Assurance, and Survey & Investigation wings have been placed on high alert in Kataka, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, and Puri districts, ready to move to vulnerable sites at short notice.
Senior engineers are maintaining constant vigil over embankments, river systems, and flood management structures, while additional officers have been deployed to sensitive locations for continuous surveillance and prompt response.
On Wednesday, the Chief Engineer of the Mahanadi, Brahmani and Baitarani Basin System (MBBS) visited the OAE‑9B overflow section of the Kharsuan River near Mahadev Temple in Aali Block. The overflowing section was successfully closed using sandbags, preventing further water ingress.
The department has directed all field‑level officers to maintain round‑the‑clock vigilance and take immediate preventive measures wherever necessary. Officials said the strengthened deployment is part of a wider strategy to safeguard communities and infrastructure as Odisha braces for potential flood impacts.
