In a significant operation, Odisha Vigilance apprehended Bhimasen Maharana, a Junior Engineer (JE) of the RD Division, Jaraka, for carrying over ₹2.03 lakh in suspected bribe money.
Acting on reliable intelligence regarding alleged corrupt practices involving contractors, vigilance officials intercepted Maharana on NH-16 near the Tangi Toll Gate in Cuttack.
The cash, amounting to ₹2,03,940, was discovered in his personal Hyundai i-20 car and could not be satisfactorily accounted for. Both the money and the vehicle were seized. Subsequently, simultaneous searches were carried out at Maharana’s residences in Bentapurasasan, Khordha, and Kuakhia, as well as his office premises.
A case under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against Maharana. He has been arrested and will be presented before the court. The investigation is ongoing, with Odisha Vigilance committed to unearthing further details of the alleged bribery network.
