Odisha Vigilance officials caught a junior clerk-cum-accountant red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 6,000 for processing arrear salary bills in Barpali, Bargarh district.
On March 16, 2026, vigilance sleuths apprehended Sri Rajani Kanta Kar, posted at the Block Education Office in Barpali. Kar had allegedly demanded ₹6,000 from a colleague for preparing the bill to draw arrear salary. Despite repeated requests, Kar refused to process the arrears without payment, prompting the complainant to approach the vigilance authorities.
Acting on the complaint, a vigilance team laid a trap and nabbed Kar while he accepted the bribe. Officials recovered the entire tainted amount from his possession and seized it as evidence.
Following the arrest, simultaneous searches began at two locations linked to Kar to investigate disproportionate assets. Authorities confirmed that the searches are part of a broader inquiry into his financial dealings.
Sambalpur Vigilance Police Station registered Case No. 02 dated March 15, 2026, under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 against Kar. Officials stated that a detailed report will follow after completion of the investigation.
