Odisha Vigilance arrested two former Panchayat Executive Officers in Puri district today for misappropriating government funds under the Madhu Babu Pension Yojana (MBPY).
The duo collectively embezzled Rs 30.78 lakh meant for vulnerable beneficiaries.
Vigilance officials arrested Sulamani Jani, former PEO of Gadamrugsira and Jamarsuan Gram Panchayats under Sadar Block, and Tuna Pradhan, former PEO of Sahupada Gram Panchayat under Kanas Block. Jani misappropriated Rs 15.74 lakh while Pradhan diverted Rs 15.03 lakh between 2022 and 2025.
Investigation revealed that both officials retained undisbursed pension amounts and diverted the funds for personal gain. They exploited their positions to siphon off money meant for elderly, disabled, and destitute people.
Vigilance registered two separate cases against the accused under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Officials produced both Jani and Pradhan before the Special Judge, Vigilance Court, in Bhubaneswar today.
