Odisha Vigilance trapped and arrested Sukma Hansdah, Inspector In Charge (IIC) of Dasmantpur Police Station in Koraput district, on Thursday, December 18, 2025.
Officials confirmed that Hansdah demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a relative of an accused in judicial custody. She allegedly sought the money to submit the case diary in court, which was crucial for enabling bail in a case registered earlier at Dasmantpur PS.
Consequently, vigilance officers acted on the complaint and swiftly organised a trap. They caught Hansdah red-handed while taking the bribe. Moreover, authorities recovered the entire tainted amount from her possession and seized it as evidence.
Following the arrest, vigilance teams immediately launched simultaneous searches at two locations linked to Hansdah to examine disproportionate assets. In addition, officials registered Koraput Vigilance PS Case No. 39/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
