Works and Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan announced that the government will develop a dedicated ambulance corridor from Khandagiri to AIIMS Bhubaneswar.

During a review meeting of the Public Works Department, officials decided to construct a three-lane service road on either side of NH-16 from Khandagiri to Kalinga Nagar Chowk. Moreover, one lane will remain reserved exclusively for ambulances to ensure faster medical access.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has already approved the proposal, and consequently, work on the Detailed Project Report (DPR) will begin soon.

Highlighting the importance of the project, Harichandan emphasised that hospitals like AIIMS require special corridors because they handle a large influx of patients daily. Furthermore, he noted that the AIIMS superintendent and other officials had requested improved connectivity between the National Highway and the hospital. “This dedicated lane will ensure patients face minimal difficulties reaching AIIMS Khandagiri Square,” he stated.

In addition, the initiative responds to the growing demand for efficient emergency services in Bhubaneswar. With AIIMS serving as a major healthcare hub, the corridor will significantly improve patient access and strengthen emergency response in the region.
