Odisha Vigilance Arrests Boudh RTO On DA Charges

Boudh: Boudh RTO Basanta Kumar Mohapatra, who was found in possession of assets worth over Rs 19 cr. has been arrested by the sleuths of Odisha Vigilance today.

Based on searches conducted on properties of Mohapatra, he was found in possession of disproportionate assets including 2 high-value Flats and 2 commercial shopping outlets in Bhubaneswar, payment of advance Rs. 2.23 Crores to Realtors for the purchase of Flats in upscale areas of Bhubaneswar and Bengaluru city, deposits over Rs. 3.90 Crores, Gold weighing 590 gms, cash Rs.1.16 Lakh etc which he could not account for satisfactorily.

Hence, Mohapatra has been placed under arrest and today he will be produced before the Court of Spl. Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar.

Yesterday, searches were carried out by the vigilance sleuths at the following places.

1) Room No. 307 on the 3rd floor at Utkal Signature, Pahala, Bhubaneswar.

2) Commercial shopping Complex no. 4 & 5 at Utkal Kanika Galleria, Gautam Nagar, Bhubaneswar.

3) Flat no. 2504, Block-4, Iconic tower, Z-1 estate, Kalarahanga, Bhubaneswar.

4) Three BHK flat No. B/83, 8th floor, Utkal Royal Residency, Kalpana Square, Bhubaneswar.

5) Flat no A-4/1, West end Apartment, Sailashree Vihar, Bhubaneswar.

6) Flat no. 206, 2nd floor, Block Saraswati, Haripriya Enclave, RangaMatia, Mancheswar, Bhubaneswar.

7) office chamber of Basanta Kumar Mohapatra at RTO office, Boudh.

8) Rented residential house of Mohapatra located at Jagannath Vihar, Rajanpalli, Boudh.

9) The paternal house of Mohapatra located at Bhanjanagar.

10) House of his relative at Kamapali, Berhampur.

After a thorough search, inventory and further enquiry, the income, expenditure and assets of Mohapatra, were calculated and he was found in possession of disproportionate assets which were 445% in
excess of his known sources of income.

It is worthwhile to mention that in 2012 when Sri Basanta Kumar Mohapatra was posted as Junior, MVI at Laxmidunguri Check Gate, Sambalpur, he was caught by Deptt. Authorities with unaccounted cash of Rs.39,000.

For this, he was placed under suspension and Deptt. Proceeding to vide No.7679 dated 28.5.2012 was initiated against him wherein he was awarded a major penalty leading to the stoppage of increment.
