Starting next month, the Odisha government will stop distributing subsidized rice to ration card holders who fail to complete their e-KYC.

Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra announced the decision, reinforcing the state’s commitment to transparency in welfare schemes.

Currently, more than 15.67 lakh beneficiaries across Odisha remain unverified. Although they continue receiving rice, the government will halt distribution for those who do not complete the mandatory e-KYC process by the deadline.

Minister Patra made it clear that no one—including police personnel, officials, or general beneficiaries—will receive exemptions. The move follows the central government’s directive to discontinue benefits linked to incomplete e-KYC. If the Centre extends the deadline, the state will consider an extension as well.

To address genuine cases, the department will accept written appeals from affected beneficiaries. Officials will review each case individually to ensure deserving recipients are not unfairly excluded.

By enforcing this policy, the government aims to streamline the Public Distribution System (PDS), eliminate duplication, and prevent misuse. Authorities have launched awareness campaigns and established help desks to assist citizens with the e-KYC process.

Minister Patra emphasized that the policy does not intend to harass anyone. Instead, it seeks to improve accountability and ensure that benefits reach the right people. He urged all eligible beneficiaries to complete their e-KYC immediately to avoid disruption.
