Odisha will soon embed QR codes in land pattas to curb fraud in property transactions, Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari announced.
The initiative, developed jointly by the Centre and State government, aims to modernise land administration and ensure transparency.
The minister explained that the new pattas will feature electronic QR codes containing complete ownership records and transaction history. By scanning the code, buyers, landowners, and officials can instantly verify authenticity. The system will display decades of land history, including settlement details and past transactions.
Pujari highlighted that earlier pattas were limited to basic information on paper. The upgraded version will integrate digital verification, eliminating the need for separate encumbrance certificates. He emphasised that attempts at fraud will trigger automatic alerts to the concerned Tehsildar and Revenue Inspector, enabling immediate action.
The reform is expected to significantly reduce cases of forged documents and fraudulent land sales, which have long troubled citizens. With QR code pattas, land disputes will decline, monitoring will strengthen, and property transactions will become more secure.
Officials view this as a landmark step toward transparency in Odisha’s revenue services. Citizens will benefit from verifiable pattas that safeguard them against exploitation and strengthen trust in land administration.
