Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government has planned to install one lakh Deep Bore Wells in five years in hard rock areas to provide assured irrigation facilities for both Kharif and Rabi crops. The scheme is to be implemented in 256 blocks of 26 districts subject to feasibility.
The State Cabinet today approved the scheme, “Sustainable harnessing of groundwater in water deficit areas through Deep Bore Well projects under Biju Krushak Vikash Yojana- Deep Bore Well Secha Karyakrama” during the period from FY 2021-22 to 2025-26 with an outlay of Rs.4198.16 for creation of irrigation potential of 2,00,000 Ha. in Rabi and 5,00,000 ha. in Kharif by installing 1,00,000 nos. of Deep Bore Wells in five years.
It is expected that 1,00,000 farmers will be benefitted every year by growing cash crops, resulting in an improvement in the socio-economic condition of farmers.
