The state of Odisha is set to mark August Kranti Diwas with a ceremonial tribute to freedom fighters on August 9.
Organised by the State Freedom Fighters Committee, the event will take place at the Saheed Smaraki Swadhinata Sangrami Sadan in Bhubaneswar.
This annual commemoration honours the legacy of the Quit India Movement initiated by Mahatma Gandhi in 1942, which galvanised citizens across India into action. Thousands of brave souls sacrificed their lives or endured imprisonment during this pivotal chapter of India’s independence struggle.
The day will begin with national flag hoisting at 9:30 AM, followed by floral tributes and a Ram Dhun recital in remembrance of the martyrs. Distinguished attendees will include Governor Dr. HB Kambhampati, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, cabinet ministers, political leaders, intellectuals, and social dignitaries.
Family members of departed freedom fighters will be specially invited to participate, receiving formal acknowledgements from the committee. The organising team, led by State Freedom Fighters Committee chairman Bimbadhar Muduli and MP Bhartruhari Mahtab, has finalised all arrangements for the tribute.
Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan has been elected as the Chairman of the reception committee formed for the program, with MLA Babu Singh as the Vice-Chairman. Upendra Padhi, Birupakshya Tripathy, and Abhay Badajena will serve as coordinators.
