The Odisha government is set to announce nine new Notified Area Councils (NACs) on August 31 to strengthen urban governance.
Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra shared the update, stating that the decision follows the declaration of 12 NACs earlier on August 17.
The government is currently reviewing demands from various districts for NAC status, considering population density and other qualifying parameters. A draft notification will be sent to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) for final approval.
Minister Mahapatra emphasised that the Urban Development Department is actively assessing proposals and demographic data to ensure equitable urban representation. Once approved, the new NACs will enhance administrative efficiency and bring civic amenities closer to underserved regions.
This expansion reflects the state’s commitment to inclusive urban planning and decentralisation of governance.
