The Odisha State Commission for Women celebrated its 33rd Foundation Day at the Convention Centre, Lok Seva Bhavan, Bhubaneswar, reaffirming the State’s commitment to women’s rights and empowerment.

Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida inaugurated the programme and released the Commission’s Annual Report, newsletter Bijayini, publication Passport to Women Empowerment, the official website, and Punarmilan, a compilation of reconciliation stories. She emphasised that the government believes not only in women’s development but in “women-led development.” She assured continued support to eliminate violence, crime, and discrimination against women.

Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling stressed that a healthy nation begins with the welfare of women. He cited initiatives such as the Khushi scheme, which provides free sanitary napkins to adolescent girls, and the deworming campaign covering children and women of reproductive age.

Industries Minister Sampad Chandra Swain highlighted the importance of technical education and skill development. He noted that girls trained at the World Skill Centre have showcased their talent internationally, bringing pride to Odisha.

Chairperson Shobhona Mohanty outlined the Commission’s achievements in addressing domestic violence, dowry harassment, sexual harassment, and other gender-based crimes. She reported that 1,879 cases were resolved in 2024–25 through hearings. District-level court camps in Bolangir and Gajapati resolved 14 cases, while 85 awareness programmes across 26 districts strengthened legal literacy and outreach.

The celebration brought together social workers, SHG members, civil society representatives, and students, reaffirming Odisha’s resolve to build a just, inclusive, and empowered society for women.
