The Odisha State Commission for Women, in collaboration with the National Commission for Women, successfully conducted a **Jan Sunani (Public Hearing)** program on March 6, 2026, in Bhubaneswar, providing a vital platform for women to voice and resolve grievances related to domestic violence, workplace harassment, dowry demands, property disputes, cybercrimes, desertion, matrimonial issues, and other violations of women’s rights.

The event commenced at 10:00 AM at the conference hall of the State Institute for Women and Children in Laxmi Sagar, Bhubaneswar. Notices were issued to parties in **86 cases** from various parts of Khordha district. Representatives from **45 cases** attended the hearing, where their complaints were directly heard, and immediate steps were initiated for resolution.

Additionally, Action Taken Reports were submitted by district-level authorities for **150 previously recommended cases**, involving investigations and legal aid coordination by the Khordha District Police, District Protection Officers, and the District Legal Services Authority. During the program, **6 new cases** were also registered, further expanding access to justice.

The public hearing was chaired by **Smt. Shobhan Mohanty**, Chairperson of the Odisha State Commission for Women. Commission members Urmila Mohapatra, Pratibha Satpathy, Mukta Sahu, and Dr Kalpana Malik actively participated in conducting the proceedings. Convener Secretary Shri Vivekananda Sahu oversaw the smooth execution, supported by Senior Field Officer Vijayini Singh, Junior Field Officer Sanjit Dash, counselors Bandana Mohanty and Priyadarshini Acharya, and staff members Arabinda Patnaik, Trilochan Nayak, Chittaranjan Sahu, and Biswanath Biswal.

Key representatives from the Khordha District Administration included District Social Welfare Officer Kusum Kumari Praharaj, District Protection Officer Smt. Debaki Sahu, officials from the District Legal Services Authority ( Diptimayee Panda and Naveen Mohapatra), Sasmita Rana from the Khordha District Police Human Rights Protection Cell, and personnel from the Sakhi One Stop Centre (Srimanti Mohapatra and Lijarani Das Mohapatra), who extended full cooperation.
