Odisha continues to reel under intense heat as temperatures crossed 40°C across 18 cities on Tuesday.

Jharsuguda emerged as the hottest city at 43°C, followed by Titilagarh at 42°C.

The India Meteorological Department reported that western Odisha districts, including Balangir, Jharsuguda, and Angul, will face severe heatwave conditions until April 25. The department also issued a yellow warning for 11 districts due to extreme heat and humidity.

The coastal belt experienced sweltering conditions, with humidity adding to the discomfort. Meteorologists predicted no relief from the heat until April 25. They expect temperatures to remain steady for the next four days before rising by another 2°C to 3°C.

Jharsuguda, Titilagarh, and Sambalpur recorded scorching temperatures, while other regions such as Sundargarh, Sonepur, and Bhawanipatna also hovered around 41°C. The IMD forecast indicated that the heatwave will persist, with western Odisha continuing to burn under the blazing sun.

Residents have been advised to stay indoors during peak hours and remain hydrated. The prolonged heatwave has disrupted daily life, with schools adjusting schedules and outdoor activities curtailed.

The state braces for more intense heat as the mercury shows no sign of dropping.
