Odisha is experiencing a sharp drop in temperatures, with the cold intensifying across the state, while fog density has decreased. In the past 24 hours, light fog was observed in Rourkela and Bhawanipatna, but minimum temperatures plunged below 10°C in 13 locations.

According to Dr Sanjeev Dwivedi, scientist at the Regional Meteorological Centre, there will be no significant change in the state’s weather over the next seven days. However, a yellow warning for fog has been issued for the next two days in Sundargarh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, and Koraput districts.

G. Udayagiri recorded the state’s lowest temperature at 4.2°C. Other chilly spots included Phulbani and Daringbadi at 6°C each, Semiliguda at 6.1°C, Koraput at 7°C, Rourkela at 8.2°C, Chiplima at 8.6°C, Jharsuguda at 8.9°C, Bhawanipatna at 9°C, Angul at 9.6°C, Kirei and Boudh at 9.8°C each, and Nabarangpur at 10°C.

The cold is particularly felt in hilly areas, marking the ninth consecutive day of below-normal temperatures. The week ahead will see dry weather across Odisha, with no rainfall warnings for any district. Cold, dry north-westerly winds are the primary cause of the persistent low temperatures.

Paralakhemundi recorded the highest maximum temperature at 30.2°C. Meteorologist Dwivedi added that no major weather changes are expected in the coming week.
