India has committed to evacuating Sri Lankan nationals stranded in Iran as tensions escalate due to the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict. The decision reflects India’s regional solidarity and humanitarian outreach.
The Indian Embassy in Tehran confirmed that it will extend evacuation assistance to citizens of Nepal and Sri Lanka, following formal requests from both governments.
Sri Lanka’s Foreign Ministry expressed deep gratitude, stating the act “exemplifies the strong and enduring partnership” between the two nations. There are reportedly fewer than 100 Sri Lankan citizens in Iran, while approximately 20,000 Sri Lankans are working in Israel.
Sri Lankan nationals in Iran have been advised to immediately contact the Indian mission in Tehran if they wish to be evacuated.
This move comes amid growing fears of further escalation in the Middle East, with several countries preparing contingency plans for the safety of their citizens.
