The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh weather alert for Odisha, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall until July 6 as a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal continues to intensify.

The weather system has already triggered widespread rainfall across the state, with southern and northern Odisha expected to receive the heaviest showers over the next two days. Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant as the system continues to strengthen.

IMD Issues Orange and Yellow Alerts

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Bhubaneswar, several districts are under weather warnings due to the likelihood of intense rainfall.

Orange Alert Districts:

  • Koraput
  • Nabarangpur
  • Kandhamal
  • Rayagada
  • Jharsuguda
  • Ganjam
  • Gajapati

Yellow Alert Districts:

  • Balasore
  • Bhadrak
  • Mayurbhanj
  • Sundargarh
  • Sambalpur
  • Boudh
  • Several other districts are also under yellow warning as rainfall activity continues across the state.

The IMD has advised people in the affected districts to monitor official weather updates and take necessary precautions.

Schools Closed in Several Districts

In view of the adverse weather conditions, authorities in some districts have announced the closure of educational institutions to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Local administrations are keeping a close watch on the evolving weather situation and are prepared to take additional measures if rainfall intensifies further.

Waterlogging Disrupts Daily Life

Continuous rainfall has caused waterlogging in several urban and low-lying areas across Odisha.

While the showers have provided relief from the recent spell of intense heat, they have also disrupted normal life by affecting road traffic and slowing vehicular movement in several locations.

Officials are monitoring flood-prone areas and drainage systems to minimise the impact of heavy rainfall.

Fishermen Advised Not to Venture into the Sea

The IMD has also warned of rough sea conditions along the Odisha coast.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea until July 6 due to strong winds and turbulent conditions associated with the intensifying low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal.

Authorities have urged coastal communities to follow official advisories and avoid unnecessary travel in vulnerable areas.

Weather System Under Close Watch

Meteorologists expect the low-pressure area to continue influencing Odisha’s weather over the coming days, bringing widespread rainfall across many districts.

Residents are encouraged to stay updated through official IMD bulletins and advisories issued by local authorities as the state remains on alert for heavy rain and possible weather-related disruptions.
