The Indian Embassy in Scotland has expressed concern over the display of an incorrect map of India at a restaurant in Glasgow after Commonwealth Games medallist Lovlina Borgohain pointed out that the Northeast region was missing from the map used in the establishment’s branding.

Following the complaint, the restaurant, Mister Singh’s India, apologised for the error and said it would update its logo. The eatery’s Instagram page also appeared to become unavailable shortly after the issue gained attention online.

Indian Embassy Seeks Immediate Corrective Action

In a statement, the Indian Embassy said it had taken note of the matter and raised it with the restaurant management.

“We have noted with concern the depiction of an incorrect map of India at the premises of a restaurant where members of the Indian sports contingent were hosted.”

The embassy said the restaurant assured officials that corrective measures were being taken and that items displaying the incorrect map would be withdrawn.

Lovlina Borgohain Says She Felt Hurt

Olympic medallist and Commonwealth Games boxer Lovlina Borgohain visited the Glasgow restaurant with the Indian boxing contingent following India’s successful campaign at the Commonwealth Games 2026.

During the visit, she noticed that the map used in the restaurant’s logo omitted India’s Northeast region.

Addressing the restaurant staff respectfully, Borgohain said:

“Please don’t take this the wrong way. I felt a little hurt by this. In the map of India, our Northeast is missing. Even the map displayed outside has cut off the Northeast. As someone from the Northeast, that really hurts us.”

She requested the management to correct the depiction in the future.

Boxing Federation Chief Calls It an ‘Aberration’

Ajay Singh, President of the Boxing Federation of India, who was present during the visit, said the issue was raised calmly and without confrontation.

According to him, the restaurant management acknowledged the mistake and assured the Indian delegation that the map would be corrected.

Restaurant Issues Public Apology

Responding to the controversy, Mister Singh’s India issued a public apology, stating that the incorrect map was never intended to offend anyone.

The restaurant said it was honoured to host India’s Commonwealth Games athletes and confirmed that its logo would be updated with the correct map of India.

The statement added that serving the Indian contingent after their achievements at the Games was a matter of pride for the establishment.

Shortly after the apology was issued, the restaurant’s Instagram page appeared to have been taken down or made unavailable.

Assam Leaders Praise Lovlina Borgohain

Several leaders from Assam praised Borgohain for drawing attention to the issue.

Assam Industries Minister Bimal Borah said the boxer not only brought home a medal but also stood up for the country’s integrity.

State Health Minister Ashok Singhal also commended her, saying her respectful objection reflected patriotism and conviction.

Issue Resolved After Embassy Intervention

The Indian Embassy said it has received assurances that the incorrect depictions will be removed, bringing the matter to a prompt resolution.

The incident has highlighted the importance of accurately representing India’s territorial boundaries, especially at venues hosting official Indian delegations.
