Odisha has taken a major stride toward establishing itself as a premier hub for electronic system design and manufacturing (ESDM).
The Unit Approval Committee of the Falta Special Economic Zone (SEZ) has officially cleared a proposal by SiCSem Private Limited to set up a Rs 3,406.25 crore silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductor manufacturing facility near Bhubaneswar.
Spanning nearly 22 acres at the ESDM Park inside Info Valley-II, the state-of-the-art unit will house a fully integrated production ecosystem. Once operational, the plant will cover the complete value chain—from wafer fabrication to assembly, testing, marking, and packaging (ATMP).
Silicon carbide power electronics are critically sought after across modern industries, including electric vehicles (EVs), renewable energy systems, high-voltage power grids, and advanced aerospace hardware, thanks to their high thermal tolerance, energy efficiency, and rapid switching speeds.
By handling both fabrication and packaging under one roof, the facility will supply 4.8 million SiC diodes and 91.2 million SiC MOSFETs annually. Industry experts view the clearance as a landmark moment in boosting domestic manufacturing and reducing India’s reliance on imported power semiconductors.
