Odisha Police recorded remarkable success in its 18-day statewide special enforcement drive against crime and criminals, launched under the direction of DGP Yogesh Bahadur Khurania on May 12.
All police ranges, district SPs, and the Bhubaneswar–Cuttack Commissionerate participated in the operation, focusing on executing non-bailable warrants, arresting absconders, curbing narcotics and illegal arms trade, and enforcing road safety laws.
Police executed 5,703 non-bailable warrants and arrested 520 absconding accused. Action was taken against 957 habitual offenders under Section 129 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and 2,620 persons under Section 126.
During the drive, 97 NDPS cases were registered, 137 accused arrested, and 7,398 kg of ganja, 586 g of brown sugar, 220 g of heroin, 219 litres of cough syrup, and 1,050 bottles seized. Police also confiscated 27 vehicles, 14 mobile phones, three pistols, and ₹2.92 lakh in cash.
In excise enforcement, 2,154 cases were registered. Police acted against 3,293 drunk drivers and collected ₹6.46 crore in traffic fines. Officers rescued 284 cattle from 17 vehicles and arrested 13 persons in 29 cow smuggling cases.
The operation also targeted illegal mining and the arms trade. Police registered 654 mining cases, arrested 162 persons, and seized 878 vehicles. Thirty-one arms cases led to 35 arrests and the recovery of 39 guns and 29 live rounds.
DGP Khurania said Odisha Police remains committed to public safety and will continue such special drives to combat crime and illegal activities across the state.
