The Odisha government has initiated plans to establish Way‑Side Amenities Centres at intervals of every 50 km along national highways, expressways, state highways, and major district roads.
The proposal was discussed in a high‑level meeting chaired by Law, Works & Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, with senior officials from the Works Department, Transport Department, NHAI, HPCL, and Tourism Department in attendance.
The centres will provide toilets for men and women, EV charging stations, petrol pumps, food courts, and rest houses, ensuring safe and comfortable travel for truck drivers, bus passengers, and tourists.
In the first phase, the state government will sign MoUs with public sector oil companies. The government will provide land, while the oil companies will manage and maintain the facilities.
Officials said the initiative aims to strengthen Odisha’s road network, reduce accidents, and improve travel convenience.
