Odisha observed the state-level Shraddha Divas of Bakshi Jagabandhu, the legendary leader of the Paika Rebellion, with floral tributes in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.
The ceremony honoured his courage, sacrifice, and patriotism that ignited the flame of freedom against British oppression.
The Department of Information and Public Relations organised the event at Museum Square. Officials and citizens gathered to pay homage, offering floral wreaths at the statue of Buxi Jagabandhu. The tribute recalled his valour, unmatched battle strategies, and selfless service to the motherland.
District Information and Public Relations Officer Jitendriya Jena, Public Relations Officer Pramodini Tete, Assistant Programme Coordinator Basanti Mahali, and Acharya Bihar Parisad President Bhagabat Das joined representatives from Utkal Sammilani and various social organisations. Students also participated, reflecting on Jagabandhu’s indomitable spirit and his role as a symbol of resistance.
Speakers highlighted his fearless leadership and unwavering devotion to the land. They described Buxi Jagabandhu as an eternal inspiration for Odisha and India, whose legacy continues to inspire generations.
The tribute reaffirmed Odisha’s respect for its revolutionary heritage and the enduring relevance of the Paika Rebellion in India’s freedom struggle.
