USA beat Netherlands T20 World Cup 2026

In a dominant all-round display at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, the United States crushed the Netherlands by 93 runs in Match 21 of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, registering their first-ever T20I victory over the Dutch and breathing new life into their Super 8 campaign.

Netherlands captain Scott Edwards won the toss and elected to bowl first on a pitch expected to assist spinners later. USA openers Shayan Jahangir and Monank Patel set an aggressive tone with early boundaries. Saiteja Mukkamalla then took centre stage, stroking a fluent 79 off 51 balls (including four sixes) to anchor the innings. The Californian brought up his fifty with a towering six and shared valuable stands before Shubham Ranjane unleashed a brutal 48* off just 24 balls in the death overs. USA posted a formidable 196 for 6.

The Netherlands chase never got going. USA’s spinners, led by Player of the Match Harmeet Singh (4/21 in 4 overs), exploited the gripping surface brilliantly. Nosthush Kenjige struck in the second over, Harmeet removed key batsmen in the powerplay, and Shadley van Schalkwyk (3/21) and Mohammad Mohsin (2/19) mopped up the lower order. Netherlands slumped from 66 for 5 to 103 all out in just 15.5 overs, with Bas de Leede (23) and Scott Edwards (20) the only batters to reach double figures.

Key Performances

  • Saiteja Mukkamalla: 79 (51) – Match MVP with 85+ impact points
  • Harmeet Singh: 4/21 – Second T20I four-wicket haul
  • Shubham Ranjane: 48* (24) – Death-overs acceleration
  • Shadley van Schalkwyk: 3/21

Post-match, Harmeet Singh said: “The ball was holding, so the plan was to hold our lengths and use the spin. The batters set it up beautifully – Saiteja and Shubham were outstanding.”

USA captain Monank Patel added: “Batting first wasn’t easy after losing the toss, but the top four showed real intent and responsibility.”

The result lifts the USA to third in Group A (ahead of the Netherlands on net run rate). They face Namibia next on Sunday in Chennai, while the Dutch take on India in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.

This emphatic win marks a historic milestone for Associate cricket and sends a strong message that the United States is a serious contender in the 2026 World Cup.
