Odisha Minister Rules Out Withdrawal of Erroneous Textbooks, Rectified Copies to Reach Schools

Odisha School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond announced that the government will not withdraw all erroneous school textbooks.


He said rectified copies will be distributed to schools across the state.

Gond explained that a high-level committee investigated the textbook errors and submitted 14 recommendations. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi reviewed the matter and ordered strict action. The minister confirmed that revised portions will be sent to schools and District Education Officers, allowing students to continue their studies with corrected copies alongside existing books.

Earlier, the Chief Minister suspended four SCERT officials and initiated disciplinary proceedings against six others. Gond said the government will implement all 14 recommendations to prevent future lapses. SCERT will maintain a master errata register, ensure corrected information reaches students, and establish a Quality Assurance Cell to strengthen the review process.

The government also mandated that no textbook will go to print without approval for language, illustrations, factual accuracy, and printing quality.

The Odisha textbook correction initiative comes after widespread criticism over errors in Class I to VIII textbooks, which sparked public outrage and demands for accountability.
