A 40-year-old migrant worker from Odisha passed away after falling ill aboard a train while returning home from Surat, Gujarat.
The deceased has been identified as Gobinda Chandra Swain, a resident of Hinjilicut in Ganjam district.
Swain had moved to the Bestan area of Surat nearly two months ago to work at a local company. He fell critically ill while travelling back to Brahmapur on the Udhna–Brahmapur Amrit Bharat Express.
Although emergency medical support was requested via the 139 helpline during the journey, medical personnel at Kantabanji railway station pronounced him dead upon arrival. Government Railway Police (GRP) subsequently shifted his body to the local hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Upon receiving the information, Kantabanji MLA Laxman Bag visited the hospital to assess the situation. The legislator coordinated with the district collectors of Balangir and Ganjam to arrange an ambulance for transporting the remains to Swain’s native village and provided financial assistance to the bereaved family.
