A POCSO court in Angul has sentenced a man, Udaya Naik, to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment in a rape case of a minor girl registered at the Pallahara police station.

According to reports, the crime occurred on July 20, 2024, and the First Information Report (FIR) was registered the following day. After a thorough investigation, which led the Crime Branch to treat the case as a red flag, a charge sheet was submitted on September 17, 2024. Charges were framed against the accused on February 10, 2025.

The trial was monitored closely, and the judgment was pronounced last Tuesday. The POCSO court in Angul found Udaya Naik guilty of committing rape and convicted him under the provisions of the newly enacted laws, specifically sections 64(2)(f) and 65(2) of BNS, in conjunction with section 6 of the POCSO Act.

Additionally, the court imposed a fine of Rs. 30,000 on the convict. If he fails to pay the fine, he will be required to undergo an additional year of rigorous imprisonment for the offence under section 6 of the POCSO Act.
