Bhubaneswar’s most congested arterial route is set for a major transformation.
The Works Department, Government of Odisha, has accorded administrative approval for the ambitious Improvement of Jaydev Vihar–Nandankanan Road from Kalinga Stadium Gate No. 4 to Raghunathpur Bridge — a 9.5 km stretch that serves as a vital lifeline connecting Bhubaneswar with Cuttack.
The project will widen the existing 6-lane road into a modern 8-lane main carriageway with service roads, while constructing strategic flyovers at major junctions to completely eliminate conflict points and ensure smooth, uninterrupted traffic flow.
Key highlights include a Cable Stay Bridge at Jaydev Vihar, plus flyovers at Kalinga Hospital Square, Damana Square, KIIT Square, and Kalarahanga Junction. The corridor will also feature minor bridges, cross-drainage structures, dedicated pedestrian infrastructure, roundabouts, road beautification, parking bays, and advanced road safety measures.
This dedicated corridor is designed to:
- Decongest the Jaydev Vihar–Nandankanan stretch
- Dramatically cut travel time towards Baranga and Cuttack
- Improve road safety by removing at-grade conflict zones
- Provide seamless connectivity for residential, institutional, commercial, and business hubs
- Support transit-oriented and commercial development along the route
The State Cabinet has approved the lowest turnkey bid of ₹579 crore (excluding GST) submitted by M/s Dineshchandra R Agrawal Infracon Pvt. Ltd. for execution. The entire work is targeted for completion within 24 months.
Additional long-term provisions include a 10-year defect liability period with maintenance and extensive avenue plantation along the entire corridor, also maintained for 10 years.
This project represents a major step in Odisha’s vision for future-ready urban infrastructure — safer roads, faster commutes, better pedestrian facilities, and sustainable growth for the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
