In a proactive move to maintain public confidence, Odisha’s Chief Secretary, Anu Garg, IAS, chaired a high-level review meeting today on the availability of petrol, diesel, and LPG across the state.

The session, attended by the State Crisis Management Group, oil marketing companies, and senior officials, confirmed that supplies remain normal despite the challenging geopolitical situation in West Asia.

Normal Operations, Swift Resolutions

Officials reported that petrol pumps are functioning smoothly. In rare instances where a few outlets temporarily ran dry, coordinated efforts by oil companies quickly restored supplies. Domestic LPG distribution has been prioritised, with households in urban areas receiving cylinders within 21-25 days and rural areas within 45 days.

The government is actively promoting PNG (Piped Natural Gas) connections, encouraging commercial and government establishments to switch from LPG. So far, 38,681 free-trade 5-kg LPG cylinders have been distributed to migrants and students on the production of valid identity proof.

Crackdown on Black Marketing

In a strong message against profiteering, authorities have seized 7,662 illegally hoarded LPG cylinders. These have been handed over to oil marketing companies for reintroduction into the supply chain. As many as 36 cases have been registered and 8 people arrested in connection with black marketing and illegal diversion.Chief Secretary Anu Garg emphasised the need for stricter monitoring and directed district collectors to conduct regular inspections and take immediate action against any irregularities. She also advised maintaining buffer stocks only for essential services like ambulances, police, and emergency needs.

Public Appeal: Avoid Panic Buying

Addressing the media after the meeting, the Chief Secretary assured citizens that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel, or cooking gas based on inputs from oil companies.

“Please do not create unnecessary crowds at pumps or hoard extra fuel and cylinders. Go about your normal routine and fill up as usual,” she urged.

The government continues to closely monitor international developments, pipeline supplies, and refinery operations to ensure uninterrupted availability.
