In a swift response to a distressing report, the Odisha government has formally requested the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to facilitate the safe return of Adarsh Kumar Behera, a youth from Jagatsinghpur district who has gone missing in Sudan.

Adarsh, a resident of Kotkana village under Tirtol police station in Jagatsinghpur, has been working in the African nation since 2022. His family recently received alarming news that he is unaccounted for, with no leads on his whereabouts amid Sudan’s ongoing instability. Concerned by media reports on the matter, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi immediately directed senior state officials to initiate urgent action.

Following the Chief Minister’s instructions, the Director of the General Administration and Public Grievance Department penned a letter to the MEA, urging it to take immediate steps for Adarsh’s repatriation. Concurrently, Odisha’s Resident Commissioner in New Delhi also communicated with the MEA, emphasizing the need for close coordination with the Indian Embassy in Sudan. The letter calls for intensified search efforts and ensures Adarsh’s secure extraction from the conflict zone.

“We stand firmly with Adarsh’s family during this trying time,” a government spokesperson stated. The Chief Minister personally reached out to the family, offering assurances of full support and urging them to remain patient as diplomatic channels are activated.

This intervention underscores the Odisha government’s commitment to the welfare of its citizens abroad, particularly in volatile regions. As of now, the MEA has acknowledged the requests, and updates on Adarsh’s status are awaited from Indian diplomatic missions in Sudan. Further developments will be shared as they emerge.
