In a major push to promote Odisha’s spiritual heritage, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Monday announced a ₹215 crore comprehensive development package for the Ghatagaon Maa Tarini Temple, one of the state’s most revered religious sites located in Keonjhar district.
The announcement reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to preserve and upgrade key spiritual and cultural landmarks across the state.
According to official sources, a Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been prepared for the temple’s all-round development. The project aims to not only restore and beautify the temple structure but also enhance surrounding infrastructure—including roads, pilgrim amenities, sanitation, lighting, parking, and security.
“Maa Tarini is a symbol of deep faith for countless Odias. We aim to transform the temple into a world-class spiritual destination while maintaining its historical essence,” CM Majhi said during the announcement.
Plans to Boost Pilgrim Experience and Regional Tourism
The DPR also includes provisions for modern facilities such as rest houses, cultural interpretation centers, food courts, and upgraded security systems. These additions are expected to improve the pilgrim experience while managing large crowds during festive occasions.
The project has been welcomed by devotees, local communities, and tourism stakeholders, who believe it will not only enhance religious tourism but also boost economic development in the region.
Work on the project will proceed in consultation with heritage conservationists, temple authorities, and local representatives to ensure that the redevelopment remains faithful to the site’s spiritual and cultural heritage.
