The Odisha government is preparing to announce fuel-saving measures today as concerns rise over disruptions caused by the Middle East conflict.
Officials confirmed that directives will target government departments, officers, and employees to reduce petrol and diesel consumption.
The likely measures include restrictions on government vehicles, a ban on non-essential use of official cars, and fuel quota limits for officers. Authorities may also push pooled vehicles and shuttle services to cut down fuel usage.
Government officers and employees could face staggered office timings or work-from-home options. The plan also involves curtailing unnecessary official tours, encouraging public transport, bicycles, and electric vehicles, and mandating car-pooling for staff in major offices.
Smaller vehicle fleets for ministers and senior officials are under consideration. The Chief Secretary hinted that these steps aim to conserve fuel and manage resources effectively during the ongoing global energy crisis.
