Odisha government has directed all degree colleges and state public universities, both government and non-government, to remain open on March 5 (Wednesday).

The Higher Education Department issued the notification, confirming that all higher educational institutions (HEIs) under its jurisdiction will function as usual on this day.

The official notification read, “In inviting a reference to the subject cited above, I am directed to inform you that all HEIs coming under the Higher Education Department shall remain open on 05.03.2025 (Wednesday).”

In addition to colleges and universities, the directive also extends to all government and government-aided schools in Odisha, which will also remain open on March 5.

Traditionally, March 5 was observed as a public holiday in Odisha to celebrate Panchayati Raj Diwas. However, the state government has decided to move this observance to April 24 to align with the national practice. This change was announced on Monday.
