To enhance transparency and accountability, the Odisha government has made biometric attendance mandatory for all employees working in Panchayati Raj institutions across the state.
The directive, issued by the Panchayati Raj Department, applies to staff ranging from Panchayat-level workers to Block Development Officers (BDOs). The biometric system will be implemented in Panchayat offices, Panchayat Samitis, and Zilla Parishad offices.
District Collectors have been instructed to ensure immediate operationalization of the biometric attendance system and submit regular compliance reports. The government has warned of strict action against officials failing to adhere to the new attendance protocol.
This initiative aims to curb absenteeism and improve administrative efficiency in grassroots governance structures.
