In a landmark decision that promises to energize medical education in the state, the Odisha Government has significantly revised and increased the salaries of contractual lecturers, readers, and professors working in government Ayurvedic and Homeopathic medical colleges.
According to an official release from the Health and Family Welfare Department, contractual lecturers will now receive a fixed monthly salary of Rs 70,000. Readers will see their pay jump from Rs 40,000 to Rs 80,000 per month, while professors will enjoy an increase from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh per month. The proposal has already received the green signal from the Finance Department, clearing the way for immediate implementation.
The move is being hailed as a major step towards strengthening AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy) education across Odisha. By offering competitive remuneration, the government aims to attract and retain talented faculty, ultimately improving the quality of teaching and healthcare services in these specialised institutions.
Health Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling expressed strong optimism about the decision. He thanked Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi for his visionary support and stated that this salary enhancement will not only motivate the dedicated teachers but also play a pivotal role in making AYUSH education more robust and future-ready in the state.
This proactive initiative comes at a time when the state is focusing on expanding and modernising traditional medicine streams. With better pay packages, the government expects higher faculty retention, improved academic standards, and greater interest among young doctors to pursue careers in government AYUSH institutions.
As Odisha continues to position itself as a leader in holistic healthcare, today’s decision reinforces the state’s commitment to valuing its educators and investing in the future of AYUSH.
