Highlighting the need for linguistic empowerment in the modern era, Odisha Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati called for concerted efforts to transform the Odia language into a vibrant medium of knowledge, skill development, innovation, and career opportunities.
Speaking at a state-level seminar titled “Our Language – Our Pride and Vision for Developed Odisha @ 2036,” organised by the socio-cultural and literary organisation ‘Viswamukti’ at Jaydev Bhavan, the Governor stated that true linguistic empowerment goes beyond merely speaking the language—it requires gaining knowledge, building professional skills, and creating new pathways for the youth through Odia.
Unveiling of Poetry Collection
A major highlight of the event was the official release of the poetry collection ‘Uthibaki Jatira Kankala’, authored by the Minister of Law, Excise, and Works, Prithiviraj Harichandan. The Governor congratulated the Minister on the publication of his literary work, praising its contribution to contemporary Odia literature.
Fostering Technical and Digital Education
The Governor stressed the urgent need to make quality educational materials, especially in technical, scientific, and professional subjects, readily available in Odia. He also recommended translating legal texts, government schemes, and critical administrative documents into simple Odia so that students from Odia-medium backgrounds can easily understand, learn, and excel.
“Mother tongue reflects a nation’s imagination, core values, and collective aspirations. It builds self-confidence in children and facilitates effective social and economic participation,” the Governor noted.
Recalling Odisha’s rich literary heritage, he paid tribute to legendary figures like Jaydev, Sarala Das, and Upendra Bhanja. He reminded the audience that creating a separate linguistic province was a historic milestone, and every generation carries the responsibility of protecting and enriching this heritage.
Vision for Developed Odisha @ 2036
Looking ahead toward the goal of Vikshit Odisha @ 2036, the Governor urged leveraging modern technology, digital platforms, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to make Odia more relevant and accessible to the younger generation. He lauded the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 for prioritising mother-tongue-based education, noting that a strong foundation in Odia combined with proficiency in English and other languages will vastly broaden the horizons of Odisha’s youth.
The seminar witnessed inspiring addresses from several notable figures, including Minister for Law, Excise and Works Prithiviraj Harichandan; Minister for Higher Education, Sports and Youth Services, and Odia Language, Literature and Culture Suryabanshi Suraj; Bhubaneswar (Ekamra) MLA Babu Singh; eminent writer and speaker Prof. Archana Nayak; and noted author Prof. Biswaranjan. The welcome address was delivered by ‘Viswamukti’ Secretary Prof. Sasanka Chudamani.
