Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi addressed the Assembly and announced that the state had formed a dedicated committee to identify, detain, and deport Bangladeshi nationals residing illegally.

He confirmed that the government issued strict instructions to all district Superintendents of Police to intensify identification drives. Furthermore, Majhi stated that 18 district-level detention centres and two state-level facilities now operate to handle such cases. Authorities have already verified the documents of 1,768 suspects, declaring 51 individuals as illegal residents. Meanwhile, verification of identity papers for another 50 suspects continues.

The Chief Minister highlighted that a specialised mobile application assists officials in identifying infiltrators. In addition, senior intelligence officers visit districts considered vulnerable to cross-border infiltration.

Majhi reported that since the new government took office, authorities identified 51 Bangladeshi nationals. Out of these, 49 have already been deported. The deported individuals included 24 from Khordha, 15 from Cuttack, six from Ganjam, three from Kandhamal, and one from Koraput.

Moreover, he revealed that two Bangladeshi nationals were caught using forged passports. Police registered cases against them, and investigations are underway.

The Chief Minister emphasised that Odisha remains committed to safeguarding its borders and ensuring that illegal residents are identified and deported promptly.
