Marking a monumental leap in its sustainable growth trajectory, Odisha has officially emerged as a “Frontrunner” among large states in the Indian Electric Mobility Index (IEMI) 2025.
The prestigious recognition was unveiled during the State EV Policies Review and Recalibration Meet convened by NITI Aayog in New Delhi.
Securing an impressive overall IEMI score of 55, Odisha demonstrated exceptional growth, particularly in urban mobility metrics. The state registered scores of 58 in Transport Electrification Progress and 57 in Charging Infrastructure Readiness, solidly placing it in the frontrunner category for both critical parameters. This latest evaluation showcases a stellar improvement over the IEMI 2024 assessment, where Odisha held a score of 49 and ranked 7th nationally.
Commitment to a Greener Horizon
Highlighting the state’s strategic vision, Housing and Urban Development Minister Dr Krushna Chandra Mahapatra stated, “Odisha’s recognition as a Frontrunner in the Indian Electric Mobility Index reflects our commitment to building a cleaner, greener and future-ready transport system. We are steadily expanding electric public transport, strengthening charging infrastructure and creating an enabling ecosystem for wider EV adoption.”
This milestone directly aligns with the broader goals of Odisha Vision 2047, which aims to foster a climate-resilient and sustainable transportation network powered by clean energy. The state’s ongoing policy reforms focus heavily on slashing carbon emissions and upgrading urban air quality.
Driving Urban Public Transport
Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) Managing Director Md. Siddique Alam echoed these sentiments, noting, “The recognition reinforces Odisha’s ongoing efforts to accelerate the electrification of public transport. With the continued expansion of electric bus services, charging infrastructure and digital mobility solutions, we are working towards making public transport cleaner, more efficient and accessible for citizens.”
