In a significant move to support victims of wildlife attacks, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced an increase in compensation from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.
This decision aims to provide better financial aid to families affected by incidents near forested areas.
Understanding the frequent conflicts between humans and wildlife in jungle-adjacent villages, the government has also expanded support measures. If a house is damaged due to such incidents, affected individuals will receive assistance under the Antyodaya Housing Scheme or an equivalent financial grant.
Additionally, a compensation of Rs 3,000 has been set for the damage to kitchen structures, grain storage units, or cattle shelters. If boundary walls or enclosures are damaged, compensation will be given at Rs 5,000 per meter, up to a maximum of Rs 25,000.
This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to mitigating the impact of human-wildlife conflict and ensuring better livelihood security for affected citizens.
