Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs for approving an increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for 14 Kharif crops for the 2025-26 marketing season.

In a post on X, Majhi highlighted the decision as a significant step toward supporting farmers and fostering agricultural growth across India, aligning with the vision of a #ViksitBharat by 2047.

Heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi ji and the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs for approving the hike in MSP for 14 Kharif crops for the 2025-26 season.

This step will greatly benefit our farmers and strengthen agricultural growth across the nation.…

— Mohan Charan Majhi (@MohanMOdisha) May 28, 2025

The MSP hike comes as part of the central government’s ongoing efforts to ensure farmers receive fair remuneration for their produce, especially amidst challenges like fluctuating market prices and surplus stocks.

Majhi emphasised the transformative potential of the MSP hike for farmers in his state and beyond. Odisha, with its significant agricultural base, stands to benefit from this policy, particularly for crops like paddy, which dominate Kharif cultivation in the region. The decision is expected to provide financial stability to farmers, many of whom rely on MSP as a safety net against market volatility.

For Odisha, the MSP hike holds particular significance. The state has a history of agricultural challenges, including inadequate procurement infrastructure and reliance on middlemen, which often leave farmers vulnerable to distress sales.

As India progresses toward its Viksit Bharat goals, policies like the MSP hike for Kharif crops signal the government’s commitment to agricultural growth. However, ensuring that these benefits reach small and marginal farmers, particularly in states like Odisha, will require sustained efforts in procurement, infrastructure, and technology adoption.
