Breaking stereotypes and proving that education has no boundaries, Girish Mohan Gupta, an 84-year-old nuclear scientist, achieved a prestigious MBA degree from IIM Sambalpur, making history at the institute’s convocation ceremony.
Gupta, a renowned business leader and chairman of Global Engineers Limited, expressed his firm belief that learning has no age limit. His journey back to academics was inspired by the world-class curriculum of IIM Sambalpur, which rekindled his passion for structured learning.
Gupta’s career has been nothing short of extraordinary. At just 18, he completed his engineering degree, and by 19, he was appointed as the youngest senior manager in a multinational company, leading him to work abroad. However, his deep-rooted commitment to contributing to India’s progress led him back to the country, where he dedicated himself to various national initiatives.
His contributions to counterterrorism efforts earned him prestigious recognition from the then-President R. Venkataraman, along with 17 national awards, solidifying his status as an exceptional leader.
During the convocation ceremony, Gupta proudly received his degree from Dr. Pramod Kumar Mishra, the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, marking a milestone moment not just for him but for the entire institution.
“IIM Sambalpur’s globally recognised campus reignited my curiosity for academia,” said Gupta, sharing his motivation behind pursuing higher education once again.
Gupta’s remarkable journey serves as an inspiring example that passion for learning transcends age, reinforcing the idea that education remains an open door for all.
