Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has expressed deep grief over the loss of lives in an avalanche in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi district on Tuesday and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured ones.
The Odisha CM took to Twitter and wrote: “Deeply saddened to know about the loss of precious lives following an avalanche in Uttarakhand’s #Uttarkashi district. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families in this hour of grief and wish speedy recovery of those who have sustained injuries.”
As many as 10 people died and 18 others went missing after an avalanche in Draupadi’s Danda-2 mountain peak in Uttarakhand struck a trekking group of 40 from Uttarkashi’s Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, including 33 trainees and seven instructors.
The avalanche hit the team at 9 am at an altitude of 16,000 feet. The state disaster response force and national disaster response force were rushed to the spot to locate the group and rescue them. The group left Uttarkashi for their climb on September 23.
